UNDERSTANDING BREAKING LIMITATIONS (Part 2)

The theme of 2026 Breaking Limitations is drawn from Philippians 4:13. In our last edition, we described the meaning of limitations and the various grounds of human limitations namely the limitations as created beings; under the sinful nature; and limitation in the law as is in the Old Testament!

It is important to understand Philippians 4:13 in the context of 4:10-12 and 4:14-18. Two great proclamations that Apostle Paul had learnt:

1. He knew how to live in scarcity – live hungry and humbly (and to suffer need)
2. He knew how to live in plenty – enjoy plenty and in abundance (fullness)

As a Missionary, Paul rejoiced greatly over the partnership the Philippians expressed to him; including sending gifts through Epaphroditus resulting to him enjoying fullness (4:14-18); thus sharing in his distress at a time when Churches from other places were seemingly not concerned. At the same time, Apostle Paul suffered need when the Philippians lacked opportunity to support him (4:10). The experience of seasons of lack and seasons of plenty had taught Apostle Paul to give himself to the work of God while contented in all circumstances (whatever the state). Philippians 4:13 brings out Christ (not people or himself) as the source for Apostle Paul! Consequently, Paul undoubtedly expresses that his sufficiency is in Christ, whose peace and purpose he enjoys regardless of life’s circumstances! The confession by Paul “I can do all things” emphasizes not so much on achievements but on the willingness to allow Christ’s power to sustain in difficulty and scarcity; and to enhance enjoyment of abundance and prosperity. This is a clarion call for all Believers to have Faith (believe) in Christ sufficiency in facing the changing circumstances of life!

How I pray that you and me would learn (like Paul) in any and in all circumstances; the secret of facing every situation through Faith in Jesus Christ! We are offered the choice to enjoy freedom as a result of breaking every human limitation in Christ Jesus! Jesus Christ helps every person to break every kind of limitation by addressing their root cause which is sin; defeating the ultimate weapon which is death; and providing the Power, who is the Holy Spirit; in living a transcendent life starting here on earth and awaiting to reach ultimate fulfilment in God’s eternal Kingdom! May you be compelled like never before to desire to break every kind of limitation!!!
